Our New Expedition YachtA tough aluminum sailboat to explore high latitudes
UPDATE 23 NOVEMBER 2002: Work continues at Kanter Yachts in Ontario. More than a month has gone by since our last update - a month filled with details and decisions. The hull is now all fully welded, the tanks tested, diesel tanks filled: stage 1 is almost complete.
And the reason for those furring strips ... Fred Wilkinson from Great Northern Insulation came in and sprayed foam over all the aluminum surfaces, achieving three and a half inches of insulation against the hull. When we come to build the interior, all the woodwork will hang off these strips, so there is no direct contact (and dripping condensation) between the metal hull and the inside of the boat.
