Hamish & Kate Laird
Kate and Hamish Laird welcome you aboard SEAL. We designed and built her specifically for high latitude charter work, supporting scientific and adventure expeditions.

After a season in Greenland, we sailed south down the Atlantic and spent the last three seasons in Antarctica, South Georgia, Cape Horn, and the Beagle Channel. SEAL has exceeded our expectations over the last 37,000 miles, and we're very pleased with how she's worked in the Arctic and the Antarctic.
Hamish has spent most of the past 22 years working in remote regions since his first voyage to Antarctica in 1988. He spent six years as the full time skipper of Pelagic, one of the pioneering charter yachts in the region. He's skippered expeditions to Greenland, Antarctica, South Georgia, the Falklands, Tierra del Fuego, and Cape Horn.
In addition, he's sailed on several superyachts to Antarctica as the "Ice Pilot" for filming and touring expeditions.
He holds an Ocean Yachtmaster Commercial certificate.
Kate has crewed on many different boats, from a square topsail schooner to whale watching boats, sailed as a foredeck hand in the Southern Ocean, and spent many seasons singlehanding a 28-footer on the coast of Maine. She first sailed to Antarctica in 1998. She holds a USCG 100 ton master's license and an Ocean Yachtmaster Commercial certificate.
Anna (7) and Helen (9) have sailed over 35,000 miles, and as far as we know are the only young children who have sailed to the Arctic and the Antarctic.
